Duduzile Zuma-Sambudla, 42, appeared in the Durban Magistrates Court on Thursday in connection with the unrest and public violence that occurred during the July riots of 2021.
The daughter of former president Jacob Juma faces charges of incitement to commit Terrorism and two counts of Incitement to commit Public violence.
Spokepserson for the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA), Mthunzi Mhaga, says it is alleged that Zuma-Sambudla, during the period of 29 June-17 July 2021, in various places within the republic, unlawfully and intentionally incited others to commit terrorism by making certain utterings on her social media posts.
He says the state is further alleging that she incited, instigated, or procured other persons, known and unknown to the state, to unlawfully assemble with the common intent to forcibly disturb the public peace and invade the rights of others.
The riots saw widespread looting in both Gauteng and KwaZulu Natal, claiming the lives of 350 people.
Zuma-Sambudla, who was supported in court by her father and members of the MK Party, was released on warning, and the case was postponed until the 20th of March when the matter will be heard in the Durban High Court.
