President Jacob Zuma has paid over the R7.8 million the Constitutional Court ordered him to reimburse the State for upgrades to his private home at Nkandla, the National Treasury said on Monday.
âYes, he paid it,â the media department of treasury said, adding that an official statement would follow shortly.
The presidency could not immediately be reached for comment.
National Treasury in June concluded a calculation that non-security components of the upgrade, which included a swimming pool and cattle kraal, came to R7.8 million.
This was then made an order of the court, which earlier held that Zuma had failed to uphold the Constitution by flouting Public Protector Thuli Madonselaâs finding that he had unduly benefited from the project and was personally liable for some of the cost.
