Zuma defends leadership

President Jacob Zuma has defended his leadership of South Africa and the ANC, saying that he "knows what he's doing".

Speaking at the National Union of Mineworkers' national congress in Kempton Park on Wednesday, he said people had told him that he could not rule the country because he was not educated.

Zuma said he is not the president of the ruling partyand the country "by mistake".

Zuma is campaigning to be elected for a second term as ANC president at the party's 53rd national conference in Mangaung in December.

The NUM is a key constituent of Cosatu, which is part of the tripartite alliance, along with the ANC and the SA Communist Party.
