Zuma complied with medical parole conditions, DCS

Jacob Zuma Foundation

The Department of Correctional Service said the 15-month jail sentence imposed on former President Jacob Zuma for contempt of court, has officially expired.

And, the Department said he had been "released from their system."

Correctional Services spokesperson Singabakho Nxumalo said the 15-month sentence lapsed on Friday, 7 October.

Zuma was jailed last July last year after the Constitutional Court sentenced him for defying its order that he testifies before the State Capture Commission.

However, he served just under two months before he was released on medical parole.

"Mr. Zuma complied with his conditions for medical parole as set out during his placement. All administrative processes have now been concluded," Nxumalo said.

The granting of medical parole to the former President by former Correctional Services Commission, Arthur Fraser, was reviewed and set aside, following legal challenges by the DA, Afriforum, and the Helen Suzman Foundation, but Zuma and the National Commissioner of Correctional Services are now appealing that ruling.
