Democratic Alliance leader, Helen Zille, has welcomed the appointment of retired judge Ian Farlam to head up the commision of inquiry into the Marikana mine shooting.
President Jacob Zuma announced on Thursday that judge Farlam will be assisted by advocates, Bantubonke Tokota and Pingla Hemraj, both of whom served on the bench in the Eastern Cape.
In a statement issued on Thursday, Zille said the President must ensure that this is an open and public process so that answers will be forthcoming and the healing process can start.
She says the Farlam Commission will be an important inquiry in our country's history and its findings will hopefully ensure that a tragedy like Marikana will never happen again.
