Western Cape premier Helen Zille is leading a provincial delegation to Brazil to attend the 6th regional leaders summit which kicks off on Wednesday.
The Regional Leaders' Summit is a biennial meeting of seven regional governments aimed at fostering productive information-sharing.
It also seek opportunities for bilateral and multilateral commitments to joint projects and programmes in areas of common interest.
Zille said the Summit must lead to increased trade and investment between the Western Cape and other regional economies.
These include Sao Paulo, the US state of Georgia, Upper Austria, Quebec in Canada, Shandong province in China and Bavaria in Germany.
