World renowned South African author Andre P Brink has died.
Tweets from multiple sources say the 79-year old died while on a KLM flight from The Netherlands to Cape Town on Friday evening.
Acccording to Netwerk24, Brink was returning from a Belgium university where he received an honorary doctorate.
He was one of the most versatile figures in the South African literary industry.
Brink was novelist, dramatist, travel writer, translator, critic and academic.
His novels have been translated in more than 30 languages.
Brink was awarded the Hertzog Prize in 2000 and 2001.
