Woolworths says its appalled at an incident in a Cape Town store where members of students group, Cosas, placed a pig's head on a meat shelf at a Sea Point branch.
The incident caused a stir on social media on Friday, when the student body said it was protesting against Israel's actions in Gaza.
The photo accompanying the tweet shows a Cosas member with a pig's head, reportedly in the kosher and halaal section.
Woolworths Group Director of Retail Operations, Paula Disberry, says the incident is under investigation and that Woolworths are considering its options.
She says that no kosher foods on the shelf were affected and that any halaal products affected would be destroyed.
