The Grade R graduation ceremony at Universitas Primary School in Bloemfontein turned into a nightmare when seven women were held hostage and robbed by an armed suspect.
School principal, Neels Gunter, told sister station OFM News that the incident happened after the ceremony when the teachers were busy locking their up their classrooms.
He said the assailant took the women to the staffroom and "held them hostage" before robbing them of their jewellery and cell phones.
Gunter said one of the teachers managed to press a panic button to alert law enforcement authorities but the suspect had fled the scene.
He said no one was injured and nothing else was taken.
