JOHANNESBURG, July 4 (ANA) – A woman thought to be in her late 60s died in the early hours of Tuesday morning after the old age home in Wellington, Western Cape, where she lived caught alight.
Robert Daniels, the principal communications officer at the province’s emergency medical and forensic pathology services, said in a terse statement: “An elderly lady in her late 60s tragically passed away and several others received treatment for shock”.
He said a section of the old age home, Huis Lizelle, situated in Bain Street, Wellington caught alight just before 02H00 on Tuesday morning.
“All other residents at the facility are unharmed, present and accounted for and the cause of the fire is being investigated.”
