A woman died at the King Shaka International Airport on Friday night, shortly before boarding a FlySafair flight to Johannesburg.
The Airports Company South Africa (ACSA) confirmed that an emergency call was received to the call center after a traveler was observed to be struggling to breathe at gate A12 of one of the airport terminals.
ACSA media director Tshililo Manenzhe said shortly before medics arrived, a passenger services agent was dispatched and arrived on the scene at 20:40 to discover the patient to be unresponsive.
"Paramedics arrived on the scene at 20:49 and proceeded to provide advanced life support to the patient.
"Despite all efforts, the traveler was unfortunately declared deceased on the scene.
"The cause of death is still unknown, however, we can confirm that the matter has been handed over to the South African Police Service (SAPS)".
ACSA extended its condolences to the family and loved ones of the deceased.
