A Mpumalanga woman briefly appeared at the Kabokweni Magistrate’s Court on Thursday, for allegedly hiring three men to kill her husband.
Vusi Mona, 48, was a teacher at Zwelisha Primary School. It is alleged that the deceased was kidnapped from his home at Kanyamazane by three men while he was watering his garden.
“[They] stormed in, ransacked the house while demanding cash and firearms. They then took an undisclosed amount of cash, forced him into his bakkie, a Ford Ranger taking him to the bank to withdraw more money,” said police spokesperson Brigadier Leonard Hlathi.
“After that ordeal, Mona never returned home and his lifeless body was later found inside his car with a gunshot wound with his feet and hands bound by cable ties at Pienaar, on Valentine’s Day.”
Further investigation by police led to the arrest of Simangele Shongwe, 46, on March 31.
It is believed that Shongwe is the mastermind behind her husband’s death. She is facing charges of murder, conspiracy to commit murder, kidnapping as well as perjury.
Her matter was postponed to April 18 for bail application.
