Widespread condemnation of Kabul bombing

The suicide bomb attack that killed eight South Africans in Kabul, Afghanistan, on Tuesday has been described as "an unwarranted waste of life" by the African National Congress.

Spokesperson Jackson Mthembu says these wanton and indiscriminate killings are not helping to defuse tensions in Afghanistan.
Mthembu said the party was calling for the parties at war to "give peace a chance".

The African Christian Democratic Party was also aggrieved by the deaths.

Trade union federation Cosatu also condemned the attack by a female suicide bomber in retaliation to a film made in the United States, ridiculing the Prophet Mohammed.

The victims worked for the Johannesburg company, ACS/Balmoral.

There names were released on Wednesday by the department of international relations and co-operation.

Among the deceased were 31-year-old Johan Abraham van Huyssteen - a pilot and flight instructor from Port Elizabeth.
