Who will be the new NPA boss?

South Africans will soon know who the new National Director of Public Prosecutions will be to replace Shaun Abrahams.

President Cyril Ramaphosa is expected to announce the incumbent at the Union Buildings on Tuesday at 2 pm.

This follows his consideration of five nominees shortlisted by an advisory panel chaired by Minister of Energy Jeff Radebe.

The nominees, selected from 11 candidates who were interviewed last month, are:

• Adv Shamila Batohi
• Adv Siyabulela Mapoma
• Adv Simphiwe Mlotshwa
• Adv Rodney de Kock, and
• Adv Andrea Johnson

In October 2018 President Cyril Ramaphosa invited a number of legal organisations and independent public institutions to help him identify and select individuals for consideration as possible candidates for the position of NDPP.

This invitation formed part of the President’s effort to meet the deadline set by the Constitutional Court to appoint a new NDPP within 90 court days after the August 13th judgment.
