WC water woes under spotlight in Parliament

Western Cape dam levels have dropped to an average of just 36.5%.

That’s according to the latest figures released by the Western Cape government as of Monday.

Local Government, Environmental Affairs and Development Planning Minister Anton Bredell said the welcome recent rain and snowfalls continue to have a stabilizing effect on the dam levels.

He warned, however, that dam levels remain critically low before the summer season and that they're working with municipalities to ensure no community runs out of drinking water in the coming months.

Bredell and other representatives of the Western Cape Government will be appearing before the National Portfolio committee on water and sanitation on Wednesday to discuss the ongoing water crisis.
