WC schools to take legal action to prevent closures


 All 20 Western Cape schools facing closure at the end of the year are reportedly taking legal action to keep their doors open.

The schools are seeking an urgent interdict in the Western Cape High Court to compel the provincial education department to keep them open.

The schools also want the court to review and set aside the department's decision.

The Cape Times reports that the legal action is being organised by the "Save Our Schools"- campaign, linked to the ANC.

The urgent application will be filed this week, with the application heard in court by the 30th of November.

Western Cape education MEC Donald Grant announced the closures in October for reasons that included dwindling pupil numbers and multi-grade teaching
