Western Cape Premier Helen Zille will meet key stakeholders on Monday as the province prepares for Day Zero and its aftermath.
Zille will receive meet with National Disaster Management, the SAPS, the SANDF and the State Security Agency.
The Western Cape government said “the focus on the meeting will be preparations for and management of Day Zero when the City of Cape Town is expected to run dry.
Day Zero is calculated to be on April 21, taking into account water consumption patterns of city residents, agricultural usage and evaporation.
By the middle of January Western Cape, supply dams were down to 28% of combined capacity.
The Western Cape Government said Premier Zille will receive a briefing from the various role players in the disaster management team.
She will also hold a series of meetings with various stakeholders in the private sector,” said her spokesperson Michael Mpofu.
“The first will be a meeting with the South African Breweries (SAB) management at the brewery in Newlands”.
“The SAB has indicated its willingness to assist in the bottling and distribution of water drawn from the Newlands Spring. Premier Zille will attend a meeting to discuss the way forward in rolling out this plan,” he said.
