Western Cape police have arrested a 25-year-old man for the rape and murder of his two-year-old daughter.
"In another horrific case involving a child, Lingelethu police have arrested a 25 year old father following the death of his two year old daughter who was in his care," said Western Cape police spokesperson, Sergeant Noloyiso Rwexana.
"The toddler was taken to Khayelitsha Day hospital this morning (Sunday) by the paternal grandmother after she was alerted by the suspect that the child was not breathing," said Rexwana.
"She was certified dead on arrival at the hospital by the doctor. The two year old had been in her father's care after the suspect requested time with child as he had recently been released from prison. FCS detectives investigating a case of rape and murder," she said.
The suspect is expected in court soon.
