Police management in the Western Cape say they are investigating allegations of police brutality after a video clip surfaced showing police stripping a man naked and punching and kicking him several times.
Western Cape provincial police spokesperson, Colonel Thembinkosi Kinana, says they are in the process of viewing the footage.
He says they will ensure that decisive action is taken against those involved.
"An investigation into the matter has been launched. Police brutally will not be tolerated by SAPS management" he said
Meanwhile, Western Cape Community Safety Minister, Dan Plato, has called for the police members involved to be suspended immediately.
He said in statement today that he has also taken up the matter with the Independent Police Investigative Directorate, requesting a full investigation.
Plato's spokesperson, Greg Wagner, says the incident apparently took place on Riebeek Street in the CBD on Thursday morning.
He says the two police officers are seen in the video removing the man's clothing until he appears to be naked and after which officers punch and kick the man in his groin area repeatedly.
"We condemn this kind of behaviour we have called on the minister to suspend these officials until the investigation is done"
The video has been posted on the algoafmnews facebook page.
