Use of drones for fishing prohibited - Government

File

The Department of Forestry, Fisheries, and the Environment says the use of drones for fishing and baiting is not allowed.

It says it has come to its attention that a variety of motorised devices, including but not limited to drones, are being used to carry bait and that some recreational anglers are also using motorised electric reels.

Department spokesperson, Albi Modise says these devices are prohibited for angling in terms of the Regulations promulgated in the Marine Living Resources Act.

He says the Department is concerned about the conservation of several shark and fish species targeted by these illegal methods.

Modise says the Department is allowed to confiscate drones used for fishing.
