The Independent Police Investigative Directorate (IPID) has given an update on Monday's dramatic shootout in Rosettenville in Johannesburg that left nine people dead.
One police officer was shot and killed by an alleged criminal while eight suspects were killed on the scene, and two others were critically wounded.
The initial report from ER24 stated that the shootout broke out at The Hill in Johannesburg in the late afternoon.
Four police officers were rushed to hospital where one subsequently died.
IPID says they have also managed to arrest another 10 suspects consisting of five Zimbabweans, one suspect from Botswana and four South Africans.
The nationality and identities of the eight who were killed are not yet known.
Police confiscated about 100 bullets on the scene as well as 12 riffles that were being used by criminals to shoot at the police.
Stolen vehicles were also found.
It is alleged that the gang was on their way to executing a Cash-in-Transit robbery when police intervened.
