Police in Kwazulu Natal seized four unlicensed firearms after random shots were fired at the funeral of an alleged drug dealer in the Mpumalanga township over the weekend.
Spokesperson Brigadier Jay Naicker says on Sunday police officers monitored the funeral which took place at the Mophela Cemetery.
Police heard several gunshots during the service and responded immediately.
Naicker says upon their arrival officers were pelted with stones by mourners who obstructed them from executing their duties.
He says, however, they managed to seize four unlicensed firearms, including an AK47 an R1 rifle and two pistols with ammunition.
The suspects managed to escape but are known to police and an arrest will be made soon.
The guns will also be sent for ballistic tests to establish whether it was used in any other crimes in the country.
