The SA Clothing and Textile Workers Union said it had reached a wage agreement in the footwear sector.
Satawu said “the agreement was finalised last Wednesday, under the auspices of the National Bargaining Council for the Leather Manufacturing Industry of South Africa”.
The union said the agreement was concluded with the Southern African Footwear & Leather Industries Association (SAFLIA), which is the employer organisation in the industry.
“The wage increase is 7.5% and will come into effect retrospectively to 1st July this year,” said Satawu’s Andre’ Kriel.
He said the agreement is for a 12 month period, after which fresh negotiations for a new agreement will be conducted.
Kriel said the agreement covers about 10 000 workers nationally.
