Two more suspects arrested in Steinhoff saga

The Hawks said two more people were arrested for their alleged roles in the long-running Steinhoff investigation.

Spokesperson, Lieutenant-Colonel Christopher Singo, said Hein Odendaal (67) and Iwan Schelbert, 63, handed themselves over to authorities on Friday morning.

They appeared in court where they were each granted bail of R150 000.  The case was postponed to 30 May when they will appear in court with third co-accused, Stephanus Grobler (64).

Singo said they face charges under the Prevention of Organised Crime Act, the Financial Markets Act, the Companies Act, and the Prevention of Corrupt Activities Act.

They appeared in the Pretoria Specialised Commercial Crimes Court.

Meanwhile, last year, former chief financial officer, Andries la Grange, was sentenced to an effective five years in jail, and will testify on state's behalf in the matter.

The National Prosecuting Authority said La Grange had entered into a plea and sentence agreement in terms of section 105 A with the State on one count of fraud of over R367 million.

Grobler, a former Steinhoff executive, made his first court appearance the day after Steinhoff boss, Marcus Jooste, took his own life.

La Grange is meanwhile out on bail of R150 000.
