Two girls and a baby drowned in boiling water

Seven bodies have been recovered in two separate violent incidents on the East Rand in Katlehong and Springs, Ekurhuleni Disaster and Emergency Management Services (DEMS) said on Friday.

On Wednesday Paramedics responded to a call in Katlehong in the Khumalo section, where they found the bodies of two teenage girls and a seven months old baby boy.

Apparently the girls were attacked by two men. The attackers beat the girls and then drowned them and the baby in a bath full of boiling water, DEMS said.

Neighbours were alerted by the screams. They caught two suspects and began assaulting them until police arrived.

“Pre hospital treatment was initiated and patients were stabilised before being loaded into the ambulance,” said DEMS.

Violence erupted on scene. Angry community members wanted to mete out “justice” to the suspects. They damaged the ambulance and police vehicles.

“Fortunately enough, the ambulance managed to escape from the scene and transported the patients to Thelle Mogoerane Regional Hospital in Vosloorus. Both suspects are under police guard in the hospital,” said DEMS.

In the other incident, DEMS said paramedics responded to a call “almost at the same time” in Springs Gugulethu/Everest informal settlement, where they found four men had been shot dead. Three others with gunshot wounds were taken to hospital in a critical condition.

The cause and motive of the shooting remained unknown, however, police were investigating. – African News Agency (ANA)
