Tragedy struck on Saturday night when two elderly people believed to have been staying together died in fire that engulfed their shack at the Nomzamo informal settlement in Komani.
Police spokesperson Captain Namhla Mdleleni said officers were summoned to the scene but help unfortunately arrived too late.
She said after the fire was extinguished, the bodies of a 90-year-old man and 82-year-old woman were found in the ambers.
Captain Mdleleni said their identities have been withheld until a formal identification process is concluded.
The cause of fire was yet to be established.
