Two EFF MP's resign after CR17 campaign funding leaks

The Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) deputy president, Floyd Shivambu, said via on Twitter late on Monday night that the party had accepted the resignations of MPs Tebogo Mokwele and Nkagisang Mokgosi from the party and parliament.

Shivambu posted images of both resignation letters on his Twitter account.

Mokwele said her resignation came following "deep and careful introspection about the impact of my association with the President of the ANC and the Republic in which there was an exchange of money for my personal use".

She said she had received R80 000 from Ramaphosa between 2017 and 2019.

"I have decided to save [the EFF] the painful time to subject me to a disciplinary process. My actions have already [brought] the image and reputation of the EFF into dispute."

According to Mokgosi's resignation letter: "My decision is based on the fact that I did not disclose the nature of my relationship with ANC president Cyril Ramaphosa, which involved an exchange of money."

She said that once the bank statement's of Ramaphosa's campaign funds were made public, she told the EFF leadership that she had received R80 000 from Ramaphosa between 2017 and 2019 "for a personal situation".

Taking money from the "enemy camp" was dishonourable and disingenuous, said Mokgosi, and had harmed the integrity of the EFF.

Shivambu said the resignations "represents superior levels of political discipline" as the women had stepped aside "for the sake of the organisation".
