Two people have died following clashes between land invaders and so-called Red Ants in the Emfuleni Municipality in Gauteng.
Official said the clashes occurred in Rus-ter-vaal on Wednesday during the process to evict people who invaded municipal land.
A member of the community and an employee working for the eviction company, the Red Ants, died.
Emfuleni spokesperson Stanley Gaba said in recent weeks residents invaded land in the area and to curb the mushrooming of structures on the land, the municipality obtained a court order to remove them.
He said there was a heavy presence of law enforcement in the area and relevant authorities had started their investigations into the deaths.
