CAPE TOWN, February 11 (ANA) – Two men have died after the driver of a car blacked out and the car careened off the N1 onto the verge near Durban Road in Cape Town and drove over three people sleeping next to the road, Western Cape paramedics said.

“It is believed that the driver, a female in her late 70s, blacked out and lost control of the car around 8am this morning [Saturday], ER24 spokesperson Annine Dormehl said.

ER24 paramedics came across the scene just after 8am and declared two men, believed to be between 30 and 40 years old, dead. Another man, also about 30 to 40 years old, was lucky to escape with minor injuries. The driver of the car sustained injuries to her forehead.

Both of the injured patients were transported to nearby hospitals by emergency services personnel, Dormehl said.
