Twenty-Two people were killed in two separate road accidents in the KwaZulu Natal province this weekend as the province was launching their festive season safety campaign.
On Saturday night 15 people were killed when a minibus taxi collided head-on with a Sedan on the N2 highway near Empangeni.
The Provincial Spokesperson for Emergency services Rob Mckenzie says 11 people in the taxi and four in the Sedan died on the scene.
Several people were also treated on the scene and taken to the hospital.
This followed another accident on the R614 in Appelsbosch where a bakkie and car collided.
Seven people were killed and one seriously injured.
The Spokesperson for the Department of Transport in KZN Mluleki Mntungwa sent his condolences to the families involved and warned that several roadblocks would be conducted over the festive season.
Police are investigation both accident to determine the exact cause.
