Two men have been arrested in connection with the torching of 51 Putco buses in the Nkangala District in Mpumalanga.
Police said the arrests were made on Tuesday, following the violent, and coordinated attacks, in which armed men in black and wearing balaclavas, stormed multiple Putco depots and set the buses ablaze while holding employees at gunpoint.
Two employees were injured during Monday night’s assault, with one shot in the leg and another struck with a chair.
A total of 16 buses in Moloto and 35 in Siyabuswa were destroyed in the fires.
Mpumalanga police said one of the suspects was in possession of one of the victims’ cell phones, as well as a magazine for a 9mm pistol.
They are due to appear in court soon.
