Police have made a breakthrough in the murder of former world Olympic champion Jacques Freitag.
Two suspects have been arrested in Mpumalanga in connection with his murder.
The former high jump gold medalist Freitag went missing last month and was later found dead near the Zandfontein cemetery in Pretoria West.
He sustained gunshot wounds.
Gauteng police spokesperson Brenda Muridili said the two were arrested at a guesthouse in Sabie on Tuesday morning where they were “hiding out.”
In a statement on 10 July SAPS said police in Hercules obtained warrants of arrest for Rudie Lubbe and Chantelle Oosthuizen who were believed to be on the run following the discovery of Freitag’s body on 1 July.
The two will be appearing in the Pretoria Magistrate’s Court soon on charges of murder and conspiracy to commit murder.
