Two arrested for abducting De Aar woman

File

Northern Cape police have arrested two suspects for allegedly kidnapping a woman who had employed them to do work around her house.

Police spokesperson, Captain Olebogeng Tawana, said the pair were arrested on Monday after they forced the homeowner into the boot of her car and drove away.

However, he said the 30-year-old victim still had a cell phone with her and contacted her mother via Whatsapp who reported the abduction to the police.

Tawana said SAPS De Aar collaborated with a local security company after the particulars of the victim and the vehicle were circulated.

"The search and tracing operation led the team to Grasmere filling station on the N1 South of Johannesburg and found the suspects in possession of the reported stolen vehicle with the victim bundled into the boot," he said.

The woman had sustained bruises as a result of the scuffle that ensued during the kidnapping.

"With the assistance of the Johannesburg Highway Patrol including the private securities in Grasmere, the suspects were apprehended," Tawana said.

They are due to appear in court soon.
