Two people, a man and a woman, are due to appear in court in Klerksdorp on Monday for being in the illegal possession of suspected stolen goods.
The two, aged 36 and 30, respectively, were arrested on Friday as part of the ongoing investigation into the kidnapping for ransom of 30-year-old Deon Nel of Wolmaranstad on 6 July.
Police spokesperson, Brigadier Sabata Mokgwabone, said the suspects were arrested at a house in Randlespark, Klerksdorp, by the investigation team.
A third person was also taken in for questioning.
“According to information, Nel failed to return home after visiting a local pub. A missing person enquiry was registered, but later changed to kidnapping subsequent to a demand for ransom,” Mokgwabone said.
He said the search resulted in the arrest of two suspects after Deon Nel’s belongings, which included a watch, clothes, a hat, bank and ID, as well as a cell phone were discovered in the house.
“Further investigation revealed that there were blood stains in the house. Investigations into the matter including the search for Mr Nel and his Mazda Drifter vehicle, are still underway,” he said
