Two suspects were shot dead in the early hours of Friday morning by police officers from Nkandla and surrounding areas in KZN.
Police were mobilised after intelligence was received of a possible robbery in the area.
Brigadier Jay Naicker says around 01h30 police officers intercepted three vehicles used by the robbers.
There was a shootout with police which resulted in two suspects being fatally wounded.
One of the suspect's vehicles overturned as they attempted to flee, resulting in four sustaining minor injuries whilst a fifth was seriously injured and is in hospital under police guard.
Brigadier Naicker says a total of eleven suspects between the ages of 29 and 49 were arrested by police.
Five firearms with ammunition were seized from these men. Police also confiscated explosives that were found in three vehicles which were duly impounded pending further investigation.
And still in Kwazulu-Natal - two men are expected to appear in the Greytown Magistrate's Court on Monday in connection with the murder of 67-year-old Mqondeni Zondi.
Police say Zondi was travelling on the Ntembisweni Road in Greytown on Monday when he was blocked by three armed suspects travelling in a vehicle.
They dragged the elderly man out of his bakkie and shot him in the head - his bakkie and belongings were then set alight by the suspects.
Swift investigation by Greytown detectives led to the arrest of a 30-year-old man in Ntembisweni.
The suspect was found in possession of a firearm with 18 rounds of ammunition. The vehicle believed to have been used in the commission of the offence was also seized and was impounded for further investigation.
The second suspect was arrested in Kranskop on Thursday while the search for a third accomplice continues.
