Two truck drivers are expected to apply for bail in the Marble Hall Magistrateâs Court on Tuesday, after they were arrested for alleged human smuggling.
The Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation (Hawks) spokesperson Captain Matimba Maluleke said Idrisa Yusuf Mussa, 39, and Danison Prahima, 39, were arrested on July 28 and appeared in court on Friday.
âPolice intercepted two suspicious trucks parked on the road near Marble Hall. While conducting a search of the two trucks, police were shocked to discover 59 Malawian migrants, whom included nine females of which two are minors, and the rest are adult males,â Maluleke said.
âThe 59 migrants were found crammed at the back of the truck some in a dire state suffering from dehydration. Some of the immigrants were found with counterfeit passports.â
He said all 59 individuals would be charged with being in the country illegally and are expected to appear in the Marble Hall Magistrateâs Court soon.
