Truck driver strike over

A wage deal has been signed at the road freight bargaining council offices in Johannesburg, ending a three-week long truck driver's strike.

The agreement was announced by the Road Freight Employers' Association on Friday afternoon.

It followed wage talks which continued until late on Thursday night.

The strike had been marked by violence which left several truck drivers injured and one dead, and a number of trucks damaged or destroyed.

Reports say the three-year agreement makes provision for a 10% wage increase in the first year, 8% in the second, plus a 2.5% adjustment in September 2014, and a 9% wage increase in the third year.
