A 42-year-old truck driver is expected to appear in the Kroonstad Magistrates' Court in the Free State on Monday after he was charged for the possession of stolen diesel on Friday morning.
Spokesperson Warrant Officer Lynda Steyn says the Hawks were alerted to a seemingly broken down tanker on the road between Welkom and Kroonstad
She says upon arrival police established that the truck had a burst tyre
The truck and trailer was filled with approximately 40 000 litres of diesel.
Warrant Officer Steyn says the driver could not provide any explanation or documentation as to why the diesel was in his possession and he was arrested on the spot.
Police also seized his phone and truck for further investigation.
