A truck driver had a lucky escape when his vehicle overturned at the bottom of a steep hill, spilling its entire load of corn onto the road.
Netcare 911 said on Monday that at approximately 06h20, Netcare 911 as well as other ambulance services, police and Fire and Rescue crews had responded to reports of a very serious crash at the intersection of the N14 and Hugo roads at the Pinehaven crossing.
“Reports from the scene indicate that the truck had come down the very steep hill from Krugersdorp and was unable to stop at the intersection and tried to turn left and then overturned. The incident and preceding events will form part of a police investigation,” said Netcare spokesperson, Nick Dollman.
He said the truck driver “was fortunate to escape with moderate injuries and was attended to before being taken to hospital for further treatment.
Dollman said that the truck and its two trailers overturned and landed across the road blocking all the lanes towards Magaliesburg and spilling tonnes of corn across the road.
“The same intersection was the scene of a fatal incident yesterday, when a hawker was killed following a collision,” he said.
