A truck driver who allegedly mowed down 20 people on the N2 in Pongola last year was denied bail.
Twenty-eight-year-old Sibusiso Siyaya has been in custody since September last year.
A spokesperson for the National Prosecuting Authority Natasha Ramkisson-Kara says the court found that the state had proven that Siyaya was a flight risk who might abscond if released on bail.
The truck that Siyaya was driving ploughed into a bakkie transporting school children.
Most of the victims were children between the ages of five and 12.
Dashcam footage of the accident shows Siyaya's truck overtaking another truck on a double barrier line before smashing into a bakkie.
Siyaya initially fled the accident scene but later handed himself over to the police.
The case was postponed in the Pongola Magistrates Court to the 17th of February.
