A six year-old- boy from the UK was seriously injured last night when his foot got stuck in an escalator in the Umhlanga area north of Durban.
Netcare 911's Chris Botha says paramedics received a call at around 9.20pm and responded to the incident with an ambulance and advanced life support.
Botha says paramedics worked for hours to treat and stabilise the child while the extrication efforts of the fire department and a technician continued to free the child from the escalator.
The child was eventually freed at around mid-night and rushed to hospital for further treatment.
