Transport minister sends condolences to late MEC’s family

Transport Minister Dipuo Peters on Friday sent messages of condolences to the family of North West Social Development MEC Kgakgamatso Morwagaashwe-Nkewu who was killed in a car crash along the N18 near Vryburg.

"Her unselfish sacrifice in serving the people of the North West and South Africa will remain in our minds for many years to come," said Peters.

She extended her condolences to her friends and comrades in the African National Congress (ANC).

"Know that saying goodbye to someone you love is heart-breaking. May you find comfort in all the special memories shared with her.  May her soul rest in peace."

MEC Morwagaashwe-Nkewu, who was also the ANC provincial treasurer, died in car crash near Vryburg on Thursday.

Her vehicle reportedly hit a cyclist, overturned and caught fire. The cyclist died and two VIP protectors suffered injuries. They were being treated at a hospital.

Peters said government was determined and resolute to reduce road crashes and fatalities in South Africa "because the pain and sorrow that comes with the sudden loss of loved ones due to road carnage is totally unnecessary".
