Traffic Officer delivers baby on N2 highway in Cape Town

CAPE TOWN, (ANA) – A senior traffic officer in Cape Town had to put on her midwife hat on Friday morning when a motorist flagged her down.

Traffic official Amanda Fojo was issuing a ticket to a taxi driver on the N2 highway at around 7 am when a motorist pulled over to request an escort to Mowbray maternity hospital for a female passenger in labour.

“Officer Fojo assessed the situation and realised that the baby’s arrival was imminent, so she put her midwifery skills to use instead and helped the lady deliver a healthy baby boy,” said Cape Town traffic spokesman Richard Coleman.

Traffic officers then escorted mother and baby to Mowbray maternity hospital, both in good health.”
