Free State police are searching for the killers of a family of five on Toekoms farm outside Harrismith.
Police spokesperson, Brigadier Motantsi Makhele, said a traditional healer who had an appointment with the family made the gruesome discovery on Saturday morning.
He said when the man arrived at the house he noticed the door was not locked.
“He waited outside for a while and when he saw that no one was coming he pushed the door and saw a hand protruding from the sitting-room door. He went to alert the neighbour and the police were informed,” Motantsi said.
He said police found the body of a man, aged about 47, with multiple wounds, while a woman was found lying next to him, also with multiple wounds to the body.
“The children, a boy aged about 16 and a girl aged about 8 were also found in the same room, both with stab wounds to the body. In the other bedroom the body of the third boy, aged about 23, was found lying on the floor with stab wounds to the body.”
Makhele said the motive for the killing is unknown at this stage and the case has been assigned to the Provincial Organised Crime Team.
