A bakkie caught alight on the N12 outside Kimberley in the Northern Cape on Saturday, after another motorist threw a burning cigarette out of his car.
ER24's Derrick Banks says the cigarette landed in the bakkie's grill.
He says the driver noticed smoke coming from the bonnet of his vehicle and quickly pulled over, but within minutes, the vehicle caught alight.
Banks says no-one was injured, and firefighters later extinguished the fire.
The motorist who threw the cigarette out did not stop.
