Top municipal official faces racism charge

A senior Midvaal municipality official is facing a disciplinary hearing for allegedly using the k-word while referring to protesters.

The municipality says the incident apparently happened during a strike last year.

A complaint has now been lodged against Hendrik Brits and he has been suspended.

Midvaal municipal manager Albert de Klerk says any municipal official found guilty of racism, will immediately be fired.

The hearing continues on Thursday.
