The head of the Specialised Commercial Crime Unit, Lawrence Mrwebi, is expected to appear in the Pretoria Magistrate's Court on Thursday on charges related to defeating the ends of justice.
Mrwebi faces charges of perjury along with former acting NPA head Nomg-cobo Jiba, and director of public prosecutions for north Gauteng, Sibongile Mzinyathi.
Hawks spokesperson, Captain Paul Ramaloko, says " I can confirm that Lawrence Mrwebi was served with a summons to appear in court on 25 September."
The charges against the three relate to the withdrawal of two cases, one of them was against the former police crime intelligence head Richard Mdluli.
In August, criminal charges were laid against three senior National Prosecuting Authority officials, including Mrwebi.
This was after rights group Freedom Under Law successfully applied to overturn the decision to drop criminal charges against Mdluli.
