Tokai murder case postponed due to delay in DNA results

The bail application of the accused in the murder and rape case of Tokai teen Franziska Blochliger was on Tuesday postponed in the Wynberg Magistrate’s Court.

“We are asking for a postponement because DNA results is (sic) not available,” said Monique Carsten, the lawyer for two of the four accused.

Carsten is legal counsel for accused number one and two. None of the accused may be named as they have not yet pleaded to the rape charge.

Meanwhile, 21-year-old accused number three indicated that he was abandoning his bail application as a result of fearing for his safety.

All four are accused of the robbery, rape and murder of 16-year-old Blochliger.

Blochliger was found dead in Tokai forest on March 7 after she went for a jog through the popular recreational area.

The National Prosecuting Authority added that all four men are being charged with six counts of rape as they “acted in common purpose”.

Meanwhile outside of court, a local group, “Women of Westlake”, declared their support for the Blochliger family.

In their pink “Enough is enough” t-shirts, the women said they would be the eyes and ears for Blochliger’s parents who were not in court.

“Your child is our child,” said the women. “It could be our daughter next.”

The bail application is scheduled to take place April 28.
