Toddler offered R2.00 after rape ordeal

A man accused of raping a toddler before giving her money for sweets will spend Christmas behind bars.

Fifty-two-year-old Sipho Mokwena of Kgautswane in the Limpopo Province appeared in the Praktiseer Magistrates court on Wednesday for the rape that allegedly took place on the 18th of December.

A spokesperson for the National Prosecuting Authority in the Province Mashudu Malabi Dzhangi says it is alleged that Mokwena lured the child to his house where he raped her and then released her with R2.00 to go an buy herself some sweets.

She says a neighbour saw the child leaving Mokwena's house and asked her why she was walking funny.

The neighbour alerted the mother and police who confirmed the rape at a clinic the following day.

Mokwena was arrested and will remain in custody until his second appearance on the 30th of December.
