TMPD officer on the run after allegedly killing girlfriend

A member of the Tshwane Metropolitan Police Department (TMPD) is on the run after allegedly killing his girlfriend when he found her with her ex-boyfriend, police said on Monday.

TMPD spokesperson, Senior Superintendent Isaac Mahamba, said the incident occurred while the officer was off-duty in Boikhutshong, near Brits.

“Wednesday night, 19 July 2017, one of our officers, allegedly shot and killed his girlfriend. It was alleged that he found his girlfriend with her ex-boyfriend. An argument between the three resulted in our member drawing a service pistol and shooting at his girlfriend.”

Mahamba said the ex-boyfriend managed to flee the scene.

“Unfortunately the girlfriend died on the scene and currently the member is on the run.  We urge members of the public who may know about this incident or could have witnessed what had happened to please contact the TMPD.”

In another incident, a 25-year-old TMPD constable died after he was involved in a motor vehicle accident in the Eastern Cape while he was off-duty.

“Apparently he was traveling with his family. At this stage the cause of the accident is unknown and is currently being investigated by the SAPS. We are saddened by his sudden passing and send our deepest condolences to his family, friends and colleagues. His name will be revealed at a later stage and the details of a memorial service and funeral arrangements will be announced in the course of the week,” Mahamba said.
